Laura Jean

Laura Jean was born in San Diego California where she currently lives. She has been an artist for more than forty-five years. Her art has always been inspired by her intuitive connection to nature and the unseen dimension. She especially delights in the combination of the expected and unexpected in her work: straight, curved; square, round; dark, light; black, white; textured, smooth.

Pen and ink and drawing were the artist’s first medium of choice. In the 70’s she started working with fabric and fibers creating one of a kind wall hangings, wearable art and jewelry. She began working in clay in early 2004 and her artistic direction branched out to include ceramics and sculpture. Laura Jean describes her more recent works as intuitive and spiritual, her sculptures springing from dream images manifesting as goddesses created to honor the divine feminine, each with her own essence of quiet power and personality.

Laura Jean is a self-taught artist, having attended numerous adult education classes and workshops. In 1987, she earned her graphic design certification from Platt College, San Diego.

Laura Jean‘s artwork has been exhibited locally, nationally and internationally and is included in private collections.

Her work has won a number of awards, has been published in Vivi-City e-zine April 2004 and Georgia Cultural Community Magazine October 2005. Her Dia de los Muertos art was projected at Mardi Gras, San Diego, California 2005 as a backdrop for musical performances.

Laura Jean's main artistic focus for the last few years has been serving as president of Women's Caucus for Art San Diego and assisting artists to connect, interact and expand their creative expression.

Laura Jean is a spiritual counselor, an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church and a Doctor of Divinity. She is often sought out by individuals wanting to talk to a non-denominational counselor. She spent decades studying world religions and spiritual practices, including Catholicism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Scientology, "A Course in Miracles", "The Secret", psychic abilities, intuition, meditation and yoga.
