Artist's Statement
My sculpture, is often spontaneously produced without conscious thought or plan, coming to life on it’s own. I am fascinated by the selectivity of the images that come to the forefront, crying out to be expressed and made physical. All of the pieces on exhibit were created with black mountain clay, which is my clay of choice. I do not use tools to sculpt my work, only my fingers, palms, and fingernails.
“Love Goddess” and “Garden Goddess” are both part of a larger series of goddess work that I am currently doing. Each goddess is inspired through dream images.Although I was not conscious of “having a new goddess”, Garden Goddess was screaming out and ready to be created. She evolved when I sat down with a block of clay.
“A Mother’s Heart” is the out-pouring of pain and anguish that comes with my being a mother. This piece was created after a heart wrenching 3:00 a.m. phone call, my daughter’s voice on the other end, full of agony and despair.
